Woman Escapes Death As Vehicle Somersaults and Explodes

A woman and her driver escaped death by a whisker on Tuesday after their delivery van somersaulted and went up in flames on the ever busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The vehicle was heading towards the Sagamu area to deliver some cartons of sausage rolls to customers, when the accident happened around 11am at the Ibafo end of the expressway.

The van was on top speed when one of the back tyres burst, and the vehicle somersaulted.

Sympathisers and other passersby quickly moved in and extricated the two occupants from the van. In less than five minutes, the vehicle exploded and went up in flames, but they were out already.

A Punch correspondent, who witnessed the incident, observed that the woman appeared dazed. She was just saying, “Thank you Jesus.”

The driver of the van said he lost control of it immediately the tyre burst.

He said, “We were coming from Lagos and going to Sagamu to make deliveries of some sausage rolls. I didn’t know what went wrong. I just discovered that one of the tyres burst and I lost control of the van. It somersaulted several times. We are lucky.”
